CME Metals Complex Hits Record Daily Volume Amid Economic Uncertainty
CME Group's metals complex shattered daily volume records on October 17, 2025, with 2.83 million contracts traded—a 32% surge from the previous high set just eight days prior. The derivatives giant saw unprecedented activity across its Gold products as investors sought hedges against macroeconomic turbulence.
Micro Gold futures led the charge with 1.27 million contracts, while 1-Ounce Gold futures and E-mini Gold contracts both set single-day records. 'When volatility strikes, market participants universally reach for our metals suite,' said Jin Hennig, CME's Global Head of Metals, noting equal participation from institutional and retail traders.
